Summer week 4

Hello everyone, I hope you had a great bank holiday. How many of the VE activities did you do? Please email me some pictures and I will share them later. We had great fun having an afternoon tea at the front of the house and we all dressed in red, white and blue. We sang along to some of the old war songs, especially ‘we’ll meet again’ by Vera Lynn.

Your English work this week is to plan and write an alternative ending to the Jack and the Beanstalk story. What if Jack didn’t manage to escape down the beanstalk or what would have happened if they couldn’t chop the beanstalk down? There is a planning template to help you if you wish or you can plan your own ending completely. Then you can write your story down properly in your homelearning book or you could even type it. Don’t rush, this work should take you quite a bit of time this week if you complete it properly. You could even video yourself reading your story! When you are writing your neat copy, don’t forget to check your work carefully to make sure you have used capital letters and full stops correctly and included interesting adjectives. Here’s a check list for your work.

Have you:

Started each sentence with a capital letter

Used capital letters for names of people and places

Finished your story with a full stop – or an exclamation mark or question mark if it needs one.

Used connectives to link your ideas – not just ‘and’ but also – because, but, when, then, if

Used interesting adjectives to describe what is happening in the story

Could you:

Use contraction words from this week’s spellings

Use adverbs (ly words) to describe the verb – carefully, quickly, hopefully, happily, dangerously

Use commas in a list correctly

Session two, the Kitchen Sink will help you develop your percussion skills and then you will be able to practise and be ready to use your skills for the Clap for Carers on Thursday evening.

Well done especially to Ashton, Katy and William who are using this resource to complete lots of reading on different subjects but I can see that lots of you have tried EPIC so keep it up. Maths: White Rose are still offering a daily video for free but not the accompanying worksheets. I would suggest following the BBC Bitesize programme from now on and I will also continue to set additional challenges as appropriate.
